He needs just 8 more to beat Warney's record. I have no doubts that he will do that. But how many do you think he can take 800+ maybe?

Anywhere from 850 to 900 in normal circumtances.
750 if he is very unlucky and have to deal with injuries.
1000 if he is very lucky and play 150 tests.

It depends upon how many years he continues to play and how many tests he plays before retirement. While 800 plus wickets are quite possible for his to achieve, if he plays another about 50 or more tests,he can even think of touching the 1000 wickets mark.

He says he hopes to keep playing until the next world cup and at the moment he has just taken his 700th wicket. He would need to average about 8 wickets per test for another 38 tests to reach the 1,000 mark. With the amount of test matches sri Lanka play then the 1,000 mark is a possibility, however he would need to keep fit, he already has had shoulder trouble in the past.

Personally I would back him to be there or there about the magic 1,000 mark.

Currently it's 113 Tests - 700 wickets and 297 ODIs - 455 wickets. So your guess is good as mine how much he will end up with. Think he wants to continue up to the WC 2011. Probably will mean over 1,000 test and maybe around 700 odi wickets. Who knows ha?
Anyway how many he finally ends up with can never beat the fun & joy he gave us.

Murali said he wants to keep going untill he reaches the 1000 wicket mark, whether he will achive that is highly debatable my guess is that he probably will get to about 850 to 900.

Could very well be 1000 wickets with Ricky Pointing setting the bar for test runs at 16,000 runs. Watch this space I projected Ricky would get 18,000 but I revised it down.

If Sri Lanka play a few more tests v Bangladesh he could well reach 2000............ I suppose it all depends on staying injury free - if he does then I think he will make about 950-970 and if he gets close to 1000, I am sure that he will stay on to try and round it of @ 1000.

he said he might play for 2 more years so i think around 950 wickets for sure unless he has to deal with injuries

yes, i think he will be able to reach more than 1000 wickets if he plays at his best every single match.
