how can we say that we control our own destiny? how do we know that the decisions or conclusions that we come to aren't merely destiny's way of guiding us into our destiny. I am sitting here right now and looking back, I sometimes wonder how i got to this point in my life. I got off track so many times but yet, here i am. I don't believe that if I made this choice, or, that choice back then that I would be sitting somewhere else right now. I believe, for some reason, that, destiny guided me here where i am today. I didn't make those choices back then because they weren't part of the plan for my life.
So, to answer you're question, yes, I do believe we control it to a certain degree, and,not or, that some other factor is in control.

I think everything we describe as being "reality" is nothing more or less than a dream in the mind of the creator who sits at the center of all existence. We are all completely united with that dreamer (in fact the dreamer is us), and we have the power to not only change our own lives but the lives of everyone and everything around us. All our actions have consequences, and to be sure that we are creating good effects, we can meditate or pray on a regular basis. This quiet time we spend with ourselves remonds us not to fight against the perfect flow of things, and it guides us as to where we need to go and what we need to do. The secret to worthwhile prayer and meditation is to learn to relax, breathe normally, and allow our inner selves to simply rest and be aware that our daily thoughts are just like the songs of birds- noisy and distracting, sometimes pretty, but nothing more or less than noise.

I believe it doesn't matter. If you believe in fate/destiny then every choice you make was already "written in the stars". If you don't believe in it, then you are responsible for your choices (more logical way of thinking).
Either way you end up in the same place.

Yes we can, its free will. Even if your life has generally been mapped out, you can change it if you really want to.
I was told that I would not be marrying for a long time and sometimes it looked as if that would be the truth, but We persevered and got married a short while ago.
You sometimes get told things in order to get a chance to change them.

I don't think we as personality's are in control of anything, but a higher aspect of us is.
