Exactly what time are they next aligned?
(it's not exactly 1:05)

The obvious answers are 13:05, 14:10, etc, but these are incorrect. For example, at 13:05, by the time the minute hand has reached the '1' (for 5 past), the hour hand has already moved on a bit. Think about it before posting the obvious.

After noon, how many times will the hands be aligned during the next 12 hours?
If you think about it they will be aligned 11 times!Thus they are aligned every 12/11 hours.
Thus, the next time they will be aligned after 12:00, is 12/11 hours after noon, or 1.090909.... hours after noon. This translates into 1:05.454545... since.090909... * 60 = 5.454545...
This is the basis for a great (sort of trick) question: How many times in a day will the hands be aligned? Many people forget AM and PM!

The answer to this question is not 13:05, 14;10 etc as some people are suggesting because the hour hand will have moved a bit. The hands of the clock are aligned every 65.45454545...seconds. This can be proved by taking into consideration that the next time the hands will be on 12:00 will be in 12 hours, which is exactly 720 minutes and in between this and the previous one, there are 11 alignments possible and dividing 720 minutes by 11 gives 65.454545...seconds. Thefore, the hands are aligned every 65.454545...seconds!

of course but 12:20:40 or 8:00:20 aren't the answers because the hour hand also moves a little as the minutes pass. for example for 12:20:40 the hour hand will be between 12 and 1. oh yeah and there can't be infinite answers to your question there is only 12 answers.

The minute hand overtakes the hour hand 11 times in 12 hours - in other words, once every 12/11 hours: in other words, once in 65 5/11 minutes.

Therefore the next alignment is at 1.05 and 27.3sec (1dp)

The minute hand moves 6 degrees/minute while the hour hand moves .5 degrees per minute.
Thus , starting at 1:00 PM the minute hand will move through 6t degrees and the hour hand .5t degrees. Since the hour hand starts out 30 degrees ahead of the minute hand, we have 6t +30 = .5t.
5.5t = 30
t = 5.454545455 minutes
t= 1:05:27:363636
5 minutes, 27.37 seconds past 1:00 PM
