Just to clarify where I live there is a road which appears more than once in the city and they have picked the wrong one.

yes you can, tell them you were parked on xyz street one day and you came back to your car and there was a ticket on it saying you had parked on abc street, the issuing attendant should have pictures taken when he gave you ticket and these will show the location

Two possibilities arise here, (1) check the parking ticket for details, as in "The vehicle was parked with both offside wheels on the kerb/footpath". (2) photographic proof that the Street is incorrectly named and the position of your vehicle. If it reads as in No:-1 you are in the wrong, but the Officer/Parking attendant has made an error, thereby go to No:- 2 photographic proof. The last time I was in the UK, some 15yrs: ago, I parked in an underground car park, in York City that was ticket entry, to be left on the dash-board, which I did, but unfortunately upside down. Imagine my surprise when I got a Parking Infringement Notice through the mail two days later. I complained, had to send a photo-copies of my International Driving License, Passport entry Visa, Parking Ticket and details of my length of stay, and I'm a British subject. However, two days later I received a very nice letter of apology from York City Council and was told to ingnore it, an error had been made by the Attendant. After all I had to pay for the entry ticket for the gate to rise in order to get in. But you can see, the Burden of Proof is on you.

Yeah, absolutely, particularly if there is no road of the name put on the ticket, or if the road you have a ticket for has no parking restrictions. However if the road named has similar restrictions, then a few people willing to testify that the car was parked on the road you were actually parked on might suffice - if you can prove the ticket contains basic factual inaccuracy, you can contest it (and no, they can;t issue a retrospective ticket with the right info on)...

If the issuer can not get the name of the road right it is invalid. Problem if say it is the next road you may have trouble getting the authorities to believe you. Do not let that stop you

yes you can with no problem, if they got the wrong name of the road, then the parking ticket will not stand, fight it all the way, also go to your local citizen advice office they are amazing, keep safe all the best

I would say yes. If the ticket has been issued incorrectly it's worth challenging. Point the error out to the company and tell them if it's not cancelled you'll challenge it in court, they'll probably back down.

If there are any errors anywhere it isn't binding. I know someone who got caught speeding in a 30 zone & he got his points & fine paid back to him because even though he was caught red handed, someone else had been caught & pointed out the fact that there were no speed camera signs. I'm guessing your situation would follow the same rules.
