You get what you pay for. I've been reading the answers on here about electrical work and many of the dumb answers I read are from handymen, and their ideas could burn the house down or kill someone. And they pass themselves off as electricians, master electricians, and handymen. I'm sure the real plumbers who read these boards feel the same way. Would you hire a handyman to fix your teeth? What is overpaying exactly?

Yes, there are lots of handymen available to do pipe work. You, too, can learn how to do much of it yourself by going to DIY websites. A lot depends on the scope of work to be done. If it is just simple repairs/replacement of sections of pipe, all materials are available at Home Centers. The high prices you are paying are for knowledge and overhead.
