There is a woman who co-owns a shop in our town and she will only speak to my husband while ignoring me. I dislike her intensely!!

This question seems more about flirting than actual 'service'.
In most good restaurants, the waiter(read: both sexes) should acknowledge the woman and address the male first. This stems from the 'dependent female' of the late 19th and early 20th Century. The man always ordered for the lady so she would not need to interact with the 'hired help'. It was proper at the time, but no longer. If the lady wanted to order for herself, the man usually set the tone and amount of the evening by ordering first. The lady would certainly recognize his pattern and order the same style and approximately the same price. It would have been rude for the lady to do otherwise.
So, if the waiter/waitress ignores you during the ordering process, then it is a throwback to an earlier, more civilized time. Be proud you are being pampered and allow your 'man' to do the work.
If you're worried about flirting, then simply thank the person for having good taste.... **grin**

I am a waitress so I always address the woman first then the man, and am polite to everyone, but personally I am secure enough to know my man wont stray and most waitresses go by the ethics code unspoken and thats address the female first, sometimes when the male has questions about the menu then the women take that as the waitress flirting with their men, when we are explaining what is good and isnt so great on the menu so if you are that type of woman the jealous insecure type then god help ya because you are always going to have a crappy attitude and then there are the flirty waitresses and waitors and you know if the woman winks at your man or is touching his arm or shoulder ok well that is plain out flirting and yeah in that case I would be irritated and if a male were doing that to me then my man would get ticked, so guess it depends on the situation

When the woman is paying the bill, (who!! what!!!), I'll defer the waitress to to her. As for the waiter flirting, the woman should be able to give him the "take a hike" look.

That has never happened to me. I have never been ignored by a waiter, and nobody has ever flirted with me or my husband either. What I want to know is where have you been going out to eat!

Spill something, preferably on the waitress.
I went to ihop with a guy friend and another girl friend. He sat on the opposite side of the table than us and the waitress totally flirted with him the whole time. Half way through the meal she was like 'sorry is he your boyfriend?'. We didn't leave her a tip.

Actually, no...it just makes me realize how good-looking my man is! LOL!! I've had it happen a million times, but the catcher is that when we have a waiter, the waiter always ignores my hubby and talks to me! HEE-HEE!!

NO, in fact I find it amusing because I know that My husband is HOT and it just confirms that he is.... I have NO problem with that because I know him and I trust him and he deserves all the attention he can get.
BTW; it works the other way as well.. he enjoys it too when a waiter gives me extra attention...... in the end it's me who is taking him home :)

Yes, I don't think they should get a tip then either. And I hate it when the waiter flirts with me too. Can't he see I'm with someone?
