Coney Island in Cumberland, MD. The critic's choice. Go to:

http://www.hollyeats.com/CurtisConeyIsland.htm

and then just put "Coney Island Cumberland MD" in your favorite search engine and sit back.

It is all about the sauce. A secret formula, made by family ONLY when the joint's closed. Son "Geno" now in charge. When NPR ran a special on them several years ago, people drove off the PA turnpike just to have a taste, and to this day, Geno flies the dogs out from the Cumberland airport to those who simply will not have anything but the genuine article. Really.

PS: I see that someone mentioned the Hamilton Restaurant in Carlise. Another small town Greek tradition, this place does have the famous "hot-chee" dog, a weiner wrapped in a piece of American cheese and dropped in a bun. But what you really want here is the onion rings!

Steve's Hot Dog Inn
5004 Lorain Avenue
Cleveland, Ohio 44102

Place has been in business for decades. All my Friends in Michigan--the land of the coneys--and some from New York who've been to Cleveland for a Tigers/Indians game or to see the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame, or just party, and have stopped there, have agreed.

This somewhat dingy little hot dog shop knows how to load a fantastic dog!
