Can't tell what type of memory is required but I can tell that you have 256Mb and can install up to 2Gb of memory.

I'd suggest going to 1Gb.

If you go to the web site www.crucial.com you can enter in your computer information "NEC" sis650 and they will tell you exactly what memory to use. Crucial is a major supplier of memory components.

Your motherboard is compatible with PC133 and DDR266 single-channel memory and has three memory slots available. It has 256MB installed now but you can have up to 2GB (2048MB) total.

You would want to buy the PC133 memory since you don't use your PC for gaming or intense applications. I recommend NewEgg.com and TigerDirect.com if your going to buy memory. You can choose by exact brand and type and their prices are much cheaper then a retail store like Best Buy and Circuit City.

your processor is abit slow (pentium 4 2.4)
(now a days it's pentium 4 3.0 or higher or duo core)

ram could need a bit more 1g plus the 256 (depending on your mother board ...if it has multiple ram slots)

sp2 good
hard drive size a bit lite

you might need to open it u to get a number off the mother board to get specs

256MB of RAM is WAY TOO LOW. I'd recommend to update it to 2GB of RAM - RAM is really cheap these days - and you'll have a pretty strong PC for almost anything. Obviously, playing games is out of question unless you'll get a good grapics card, such as GeForce 8600. Thus, try to upgrade your RAM to 2GB and see if that's enough. If it is still too slow for you, you'll need to get a new PC.

you can actually install up to 8 GB of memory now.

anyway. upgrade your ram, maybe get a secondary hard drive, and upgrade your video/sound cards. though if you get a high-end video card, you may also need a new motherboard and processor.
