How close together are the houses?
Contractors would be out there waking people up without worries. BUt if you want to wait until 10 to start mowing, you'll feel better about it

Noise bylaws, for noise that is unavoidable like mowing, cover the period from 11 pm to 7 am. But I wouldn't cut the grass in the morning anyway, more likely to burn in the midday sun. Cut your grass in the evening and allow it the overnight hours to recover from the stress.
I think 8:30 am is too late, or 12 hours too early.

Wow! That is so considerate to ask. I have a small child and he has been waken up by my neighbors' mowing many times. My husband always waits til late evening to mow.

In Germany it is law that you can't mow before 10am at the weekend. So give the neighbors a decent lie in.

sure you can. its gonna be extremely hot. I understand that people are out late working or partying on fridays but it is your lawn and its not 5 am. I mean hey, whenever my neighbors mow their lawns i have a sinus headache all day but i dont expect them not to mow. =)

The rule of thumb at my house is 9 am on a weekend morning. but my husband doesn't pay attention to my rules. He once went out at 6:30 with his leaf blower, which makes a lot of noise, and I had to go out and yell at him to stop.

Wait till after 10....it is considerate for those who have to work late. Plus there is a noise ordainance for most cities...find out the time....
Glad to hear that some people are trying to be considerate...we have a noisy neighbor above us blaring her music at 8am. My fiancee and I work till 1 in the morning. Grrrrr.
