From Wikipedia:
"A parachute candidate, also known as a “carpetbagger” in the United States, is a pejorative term for an election candidate who does not live in and has little connection to the area he or she is running to represent. The allegation is thus that the candidate is being “parachuted in” for the job by a desperate political party that has no reliable talent indigenous to the district or state or that the party (or the candidate himself/herself) wishes to give a candidate an easier election than would happen in one's own home area. For example, in a 2000 race for U.S. Senator in New York, Democrat Hillary Clinton was accused of carpetbagging New York. Similarly, in the 2004 Illinois Senate race, Alan Keyes of Maryland ran on the Republican ticket with similar accusations."

Why do we suppose Hillary moved to NYS, and then ran for Senator? Could this all have been planned as a stepping stone to running for President?

Hillary is hardly the only candidate that state of NY has adopted and made its senator. NY did the same thing with Robert F. Kennedy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_f_kennedy#Senator_for_New_York back during the election of 1964. It is possible that Clinton was interest in NY see the RFK example, however it is more likely that Clinton's politics (like Kennedy's) is in line with most New Yorkers. As the the allegation that Clinton was parachuted in that is doubtful, but I could see why you come to that conclusion.

Good Luck!!!

The difference with Keyes, is the Illinois Republican running quit the race; so Keyes was asked to run against the Democrat. Hillary knowing the most liberal state with the most minorities had the best chance to win in NY. Yes Hillary as Nancy Pelosi have nothing on their mind except power! Thats all they want. But Pelosi is showing us all her ranting and bragging after the nov 2006 election, has resulted in complete FAILURE TO LEAD! Hillary can not and will not beat Obama. And Obama can not and will not win in 2008!

If Hillary had attempted to run for any office in Arkansas she would have been clobbered since the people in that state know what she is all about. The people in Arkansas were happy when Bill was elected President, they said they were glad to get Bill and Hillary out of the state

Off the suitable of my head, the only one i will think of of is President grant. Born and raised in Ohio, I easily have continuously seen him to be between the Presidents elected from the State of Ohio and that i think of maximum background books count variety him as being from Ohio. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, 2 years in the past, a Park Ranger at a Civil conflict conflict website, informed me that grant became easily living in, and a legal resident of the two Indiana or Illinois, whilst he became elected. The ranger became a transplant from a clean England State, so i don't think he had a accomplice "awl to grind"; yet I *nevertheless* believe and seem at Mr. grant to be from my own State of Ohio! Checking the checklist of Ohio Presidents on the WWW, I suggested that Benjamin Harrison, grandson of William Harrison is likewise claimed via the State of Indiana! of path Jay Rockerfeller and Robert Byrd are the two parachute applicants or carpetbaggers representing the State of WV interior the U.S. Senate. whilst i became interior the army interior the early Nineteen Sixties, and stationed in Virginia, Robert Byrd's father, Harry, became certainly one of the two Senators from the State of Virginia, whose seat became then crammed via Robert's brother, Harry, Jr. Jay's uncle became Governor of long island, and that i think Jay grew up there. Bobby Kennedy became a carpetbagger Senator interior the State of long island, like Mrs. bill Clinton, and Elizabeth Dole is seen via some human beings to be a carpetbagger Senator in North Carolina; yet she became easily born and raised there!

By strict interpretation of your question, NO, Hillary is not a "parachute candidate." Reason: She has talents and abilities to bring to bear for the people of the state that she represents. That's the main difference between her and Alan Keyes--who is an absolute embarrassment...to his ethnic race...to his party...to the state of Illinois.

The state of New York knew who and what they were getting, and they are darn lucky to have her.

As to her presidential aspirations, I think that helps her and the state of New York, giving them more clout than even their size would suggest.
