Since I don't drive I don't go to gas stations that much but I've been barefoot at every store or anywhere else I've been for over ten years. It's not gross or dangerous; our skin is made to keep pathogens out. Feet get very tough very quickly and are fully washable.
And that 'ever present' no shoes, no shirts, no service sign isn't global, I've never seen one here in the Netherlands nor on my trips to Belgium & Scotland... Even in the US not all stores have such a sign or policy; the Health Department doesn't require it, insurance companies don't either, and while it may seem 'all stores' have such a sign, in fact many stores really don't care.

I have pumped gas barefoot, but I've never gone into a store barefoot. Sometimes on road trips I take off my shoes and just get out and pay at the pump.

I think I did go barefoot at a gas station MANY years ago. Back in the late 70s. just to get a quick soda.

You bet! I get gas ALL the time barefoot. I go into the store when I need something, and always just go in barefoot. Since I'm always barefoot anyway, it would be stupid to put shoes on just for that.

Keep 'em BARE!

I am a full time barefooter and go barefoot everywhere. I took my shoes off a year ago and love the comfort, freedom and health benifits of being barefoot.

ugggHhhhh!! I usually put my flip flops on when I step out. All the stuff that people step in and track, why would you want to subject yourself to that. Not to mention you can get something stuck in your foot, like a tack or something, you never know. ( It really hurts!!)
