I bought a jacket in a store for £35.99. The original price was £65.99. How do I work out the percentage discount given?

because 30 is the discount and 66 is the original..

about 45%

You do a percent difference. You have to calculate the percentage that you didn't pay.

so 65.99-35.99 = 30
30/65.99

that comes up to about 45%

You know it CAN NOT Be at or over 50%. Why? Because half of 65.99 is about 33 and you paid more than that!

so far we has 50% for 54.54% and 50% for 45.5%.

the formula for discount is (1 - price paid / original price)

(1 - 35.99 / 65.99) = (1- 0.5454) = 0.45.46 or 45.46 / 100 or 45.46% discount.

you divide what you paid by the origonal price you will get your answer of what your discount is
