That's because she is British, Australian whatever. I can't think of an artist from the commonwealth countries that is popular in the United States.

She is not that famous, but she is well known. She turns up in unexpected ways like as a friend of or at an award show. She is not in the same league as most of the big singers over in the US though, even though her music is pretty tight (for her genre).

Even though her song lyrics are sometimes very weird she is famous with me. Songs about girls being murdered down by a river bank turn a lot of people off. However at least they have more than the usually one sentence of lyrics being repeated for five minutes that is so common nowadays.
