I have had a Star hot water heater in my mobile home for many years..six years..but you have to have a larger vent pipe instead of the 3" you need at least 5" to vent the hot air as my Aqua Star was 125,000 b.t.u. and it cost about six hundred dollars plus $125.00 to install by the seller of this product..but my wife saved a lot of money over the electric hot water we had in our trailer..but here is the catch..the local plumbers do not want to work on a tankless hot water ..and they will give you a lot of reason..but maily they are not familar with this product..if you use natural gas there is a different orifice (larger) then if you have propane (smaller orrifice) so this in very important in gas consumption..
Try to find a local plumer who would work on the tankless if none then stick with the conventional gas..as electric is more cotly...I think when you figure the cost of a hot water heater you should just buy the appliance..if you are going to be staying in your house for any amount of time..in a year or so it would pay for itself..properly maintained any hot water heater should last a long time..depends on the quantity of water you have..do you have sulphur water or hard water? makes a difference..also drain the tank from time to time if you have a lot of sediment..when the tank leaks..time to replace.

I've never heard of a rented hot water heater.

The tankless type is more efficient but is quite a bit more expensive to purchase. Make sure that it's properly sized for the home and the number of occupants.

fix the leak before it gets worse. Get a heater 30 gallon and don't turn it on electricity and save on electric. Water damage really sucks go spring for a heater....
