I think the biggest American myth is: Work hard and you can get ahead.
About your president question I think it's a little like saying any one can become a gold medal figure skater. Sure you can train for years (starting young), become better, maybe even go to the Olympics (more than once even), but the Gold depends on your competition as well. Of course getting even good enough to compete might depend on some level of natural talent for the sport as well.
So, anyone can go into politics and head toward the presidency might be a more accurate statement.

Anyone can be president you just need alot of money a pretty face and to be in the right party and say the right things at the right time and you win. If you look at it, America has become Ancient Rome, back in the days when the republic fell because of corrupted elections and war hero leaders. We need to change things if America is to be a great superpower once again and preserve the freedoms and rights that were originally given to us, right now we are losing those things.
