Can you use an IBM pc, standing on edge, rather than flat?

For space, it would be easier if I stood my computer on it's side, instead of the base. Would that affect the pc? I got an IBM for $10 at a yard sale, and it works OK. It's got a newer operating system, and my old PC is windows ME. The IBM is 2000 professional.

Other than being unstable, I dont see any problems as long as you dont cover the fans
