happiness is being content with yourself and your circumstances.

happiness is defined as the ability to accept and enjoy (or at a minimum, to not be discouraged) the daily experiences as they unfold. It is a basic philosophy that can help eliminate some of those dark moments, depression, uneasiness, unhappiness, etc. For instance, do you really need bright sunshine to be happy? Consider the joy of clouds and rain and fog. It can be as beautiful as bright sunshine. If a rainy day evokes feelings of sadness or unhappiness, perhaps you had a bad experience on a rainy day. Tony Robbins calls this a ‘trigger’. The rainy day triggers the emotions so you remember the way you felt during that experience. It will take some work on your part to overcome these triggers, but it can be done.

But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man and the life he leads.
-Albert Camus

Bascially to me happiness is the absence of harm and the presence of love

Happiness is a state of mind. There can not be such a thing like TOTAL happiness.People feel happy about certain things at a given point of time. What constitutes happiness?Well again,it differs from person to person. In almost all forms of happiness, certain degrees of illusion or a 'make believe' is inbuilt. Being a state of mind with implied freedom of choice,it can not be forced on a person.Cognitive behavior [learn t behavior] plays a major role in deciding about things to happy, when to be happy and also it's magnitude.Fortunately,we all can learn and train ourselves to be happy under given circumstances.Lastly, happiness can be quite contagious, like by seeing or interacting with a happy person, others feel less stressed or miserable. Therefore, logically a few happy persons in a society,a town or a work place etc can prove to be Happiness-Multipliers.

Happiness and unhappiness are opposite sides of a judgement about your situation. If you judge your situation as bad for you, that's unhappiness. If you judge a situation as good for you, that's happiness.

The experience of happiness is one of those general terms we use to say, "I feel good emotionally." People use different terms to describe what feels good for them. For someone it might be excitement, passion, exhilaration, fulfillment, freedom, feeling fully alive with inspiration and joy. For another it might be more peaceful, content, capable, hopeful, satisfied, and comfortable feeling. Whatever you call it, it just feels darn good.

Our natural state of being is to be happy. When you remove all the uncomfortable emotions we humans can experience (and they are numerous), you're left with happiness. So it's easiest to define happiness by what it is not.

Happiness is what you feel when you're NOT feeling....

self doubt
depressed
hateful
fearful
worried
unsatisfied
bored
grief
shame
guilt
discontent
anxious
annoyed
angry
irritated
stressed
frustrated
upset
down
sad
envious
or
jealous.

Whew! That’s a long list!

To me happiness is a good feeling as a result of a situation. It is totally conditional.

Content is being satisfied with myself. It is not conditional on things around me. I can be content and not happy, or vice-versa.

Happiness is the opposite of sadness; it is a state of being joyful, of rapture, of merriment.
