this article really gets me

Assuming every statement in the article is true, there is not enough there to prove to me that he is truly innocent. I do know this: he was tried, and convicted, and he has appealed, and has lost at every stage. So it would be a mistake, on the basis of this article, to "know" that he is an innocent man.

And, I don't know what is wrong with Newt's law. Why should a (generic) cold-blooded murderer be fed and housed for 20 years before justice is done? And, no, life in prison isn't justice, it's just waiting for justice. Besides, your hero Bill Clinton signed it into law, so you ought to be cool with it.

That said, if the article is true, this man does not deserve the death penalty. The ultimate punishment must be reserved for the worst of the worst, and it appears plausible that this guy isn't that.

The governor of Georgia should be the one to exhibit mercy to this man by commuting his sentence to life in prison, until and unless additional evidence surfaces that proves he was the shooter.

No, Bush is worse, hands down.
If you want to make a difference go here and ask for clemency from the State Board of Pardons and Paroles of Georgia. The decision is theirs on whether or not to grant clemency, the governor has nothing to do with it:

http://www.pap.state.ga.us/opencms/opencms/

or call this number to ask for clemency:
404-657-9350

I feel, considering the overwhelming change in evidence and the recantation of the testimony of seven witnesses, the least the Board should do is commute the man's sentence to life instead of executing him.

Both Mr. Gingrich and Mr. Bush are good men. Neither is "worse" at anything.
