Please post some details please. It's hard to comment without at least some idea as to what is going on.
Edit: Wow. Why did she send money to someone sight-unseen? That's just not prudent!
How did she send the funds? Did she mail it? If so, call the police in the jurisdiction where the letter was sent.
Or did she send it via Western Union? If she did that, consider it an expensive lesson learned. Even though you put an address for the recipient on the WU slip, anyone can claim the funds at any WU office anywhere in the world if they know the recipient's name, the sender's name, the amount, and have ID that matches the name on the slip. Once the money is claimed, there's no way to recover it though WU can tell you at which office it was claimed.

Unless you can physically track down the dishonest person (chances of that are slim) you are out of luck and your daughter has learned a VERY expensive lesson.
Yahoo, of course, will not bear any responsibility for this, since Yahoo Real Estate is merely an advertising medium Sad to say, it was your daughter's responsibility to insure that the party with whom she was dealing was legitimate.
Please tell your daughter that the internet is ONLY an advertising medium, and that due diligence MUST be performed before engaging in any transactions advertised online.

Stop paymenbt on the check. Go look for a rental the old fashion way--shoe leather express.... Pay for what you see... You spent $2100 and don't know what your renting......

Thanks for the additional details.
I'm assuming that the check has been cashed...at $2100, that is a felony. Here is what you do:
Call your bank and get them to research for you WHOSE account it was deposited into. Take that information to the police department and file CRIMINAL charges.
This is not a simple civil matter...when you take services, and provide them, no matter how poor, it's civil. When you don't provide them at all, that's criminal.
The person that cashed the check will be held liable.
PS: There are many other ways to track this down and the police will take care of it.

When you say scammed what do you mean? If she purchased a property that was not advertised properly then yes. I would go thru Yahoo and explain your situation and see what avenues they have. If they dont help, see your solicitor and take action.
