i used to wonder that...and i guess now that i am in my 40's...it isn't so important because i know even if we do travel there...i won't get the opportunity...as far as if there is anything out there waiting for us...that used to terrify me...and mystify both at the same time...now i'm just like...eh...if it's out there it's out there...big d*mn deal...

gosh that sounded a bit cynical and wasn't meant to

I don't really think we will ever travel to any planets outside our own solar system, as they are just too far away. But is anything waiting for us? I don't think waiting is quite the right word. Yes, it is likely there are other creatures out there (though they are most likely to be only bacteria, or something simple like that). But I doubt they are waiting for us to arrive. I doubt they have the intelligence to know we exist, and if they do, they are probably praying we never turn up, as we would probably do to their planet as we have to ours : rob it of all it's resources, kill the other species, and then blow each other up in nuclear wars. So they'd be a bit stupid to be waiting. But they're out there. I mean, think about it, in such a huge universe, there is no way we are the only creatures in it.

its been nearly 8 years since i saw a starry sky. the sky over cities is so polluted that you cant even see stars, do you have any idea how angry i am about that. but when i was young living in the country, i remember every night looking up at the sky and every night i would come up with a story to what i would do if i was out there and imagine the things i would see. sometimes i saw certain patterns in the stars, it was as though there was a river of stars all flowing in the same direction. i have also seen the Scorpio constellation, it looks just like a scorpion, its amazing. i have always wanted to see Leo constellation, they say it contains the brightest galaxies and stars. but for now i am stuck in this shitty city with these aggressive people who have a brain of a fish and don't even know that there are stars in the sky. and i am not jocking, i have met people who don't know that there are stars. personally, i think the stars are too beautiful for these idiots to reach, i wouldn't want them ruined like earth. if i ever go to space, i wont come back to earth, i don't care if i die, i would rather die in space than earth.

We should really be trying to help save our planet and not spending zillions of dollars on space travel. As for the first man on the moon, I believe it was a set up, it never happened. Is there anything waiting for us out there? Yes,just micro-organisims.Maybe one day we will travel to other planets but it won`t be in our life time.

Absolutely my friend. It is our destiny to reach the stars. Just look at us now. Its been barely fifty years since we've dared to explore space. Now we are sending robots to Mars and spacecraft like Voyager to be our emissaries to the outer reaches of space.

In the end, we have to find another planet to inhabit, as resources are finite. Just like Columbus ventured across the Atlantic, thinking he would find India; another brave soul will cross the vast emptiness of space, looking for "India" but finding something far more valuable, a new home.

The universe is waiting for us.

We will never get to other planets apart from possibly Mars, and in any case I reckon that our civilisation has got about another 300 years to run before it collapses, as have all the others.
