They certainly do contribute in their own, insipid ways. Then again, the media incites alot of things that otherwise wouldn't have been such a big deal years ago. You take marijuana for example. If it hadn't been for the media and it's constant prattling about how the herb was such a problem in our country, it might never have become a problem. This was back in the late 60's and early 70's when most people were just discrete about getting high on the week end. Here comes the media (they look high and low for a story) to the rescue to save us from a non problem. They've done the same thing for religion. They high light the whackos and say nothing about those who actually do good in the land.
There's alot more to be said about the media, and there are those who will argue about the good the media has done, but when does responsibility for its actions and mandate begin, and the enormous goofy-assed influence it wields over society end?

I don't think it incites fear...but I do think it tries to make religion look backward and for the unenlightened.
Christians are often portrayed as stupid, uneducated, uninformed etc. This is just not true. The media spins things in order to get ratings, they are not interested in giving us the whole truth.
I don't know of anyone who fears religion. Religion is nothing more then the framework for receiving the grace and mercy of God. It is not something to be feared.

To an extent. I'm far from defending corrupt religion, but the media will exaggerate anything. And it does infiltrate people's minds...it incties fear of a lot of things. And people can say it doesn't, but you hear far less frequently of positive religion-inspired deeds than of negative ones.
Maybe they happen on a smaller, less dangerous scale, but that doesn't mean they don't happen.

No, while the media does tend to be unsupportive of some religions or all at various times, it also is very supportive of faith and religion at times. The media is like and other form of expression, it is a tool used by various people to express their views.

Not really. If accurately reporting facts makes people afraid of religion, that isn't quite inciting it

No... that's * RELIGION's * ugly, long-term bailiwick...
“There was a time when religion ruled the world. It is known as the Dark Ages.” -- Ruth Hurmence Green
“We have just enough religion to make us hate, but not enough to make us love each other.” -- Jonathan Swift
“Many of us saw religion as harmless nonsense. Beliefs might lack all supporting evidence but, we thought, if people needed a crutch for consolation, where's the harm? September 11th changed all that.” – Richard Dawkins
“With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.” – Steven Weinberg (1933 - ), The New York Times, April 20, 1999
“There are only two things in which the professors of all religions have agreed: to persecute all other sects and to plunder their own.” -- Charles Caleb Colton
“Christians always write to me threatening me with Hell. Strange how they think this vindicates them and their religion. Threats are the hallmark of a wicked creed.” -- Richard C Carrier, Jr.,
AND FROM RELIGION...
"We have enough votes to run the country. And when the people say, "We've had enough," we are going to take over." – Pat Robertson
AND... PURE, VILE, UGLY INTOLERANCE!!!
"Tolerance is the worst roar of all, including tolerance for homosexuals, feminists, and religions that don't follow Christ." – Josh McDowell, at a Youth for Christ rally in 1994

No, but I do see a bias against religion in the mainstream media. It is a known fact that polls taken in the media and education show that most people who work in these areas are atheist and politically liberal. Their work reflects their views. We just need to be informed and see them for what they are.....marketers of their world view.
