Hi everyone,
please advise on this problem.
My passport has suffix kumar after my first name (anilkumar).
The reason being my 10th Leaving certi and Passing Certi have the name Anilkumar on it.
However, all other certificates (PAN card, B.com degree and 12th certi) have name Anil on it.
I dont have Birth certificate.
Since my Birth date and place are are mentioned only on Leaving certificate, i was forced to make passport with name Anilkumar.
I want to change it to Anil to get in line with PAN card and other documents.
Please advise.
Also advise regarding contact of agents or lawyers in mumbai who can help to correct this situation.
Thanks in advance.

you will have to go through the lengthy procedure of changing your name ie first advertise in two local papers your intent of changing your name from --- to------. keep the cutting as proof and go to the courts and make out an affidavit and get it registered and sighed by a magistrate. the sharks found cluttering the courts will be able to help you speed up the process for a reasonable fees. good luck

Please read this answer very carefully. The Immigration Dept accepts 2 proofs as birth certificate ONLY. 1) birth certificate issued by local authority (like Municipality/ Corporation/Village Panchayat etc). and 2) Affidavit by parent(s). Any pleader/advocate can take care of this. Nothing else is acceptable but these two as 'proofs'.
Regarding another problem: don't get bothered in the matter of name. In your VISA application, just below the column of 'name' you will find 'other name' column where you can write another name. Your application name should be as per passport (Anilkumar), other name should be 'anil'.

You can make a legal change of name. It isn't really very hard to do. Ask at your local courthouse or on google for some info. on the subject.
