I can boil eggs just fine, thank you.
I worked in the toughest area of my city, and the citizens I worked with either really loved us, or really hated us. The dividing line was which side of the law they were on.
It used to really disgust me that people would call us for a minor problem, like a loud party, and then get upset when we started arresting people out of that party who were gang members, drunk in public, either high on, or selling drugs, or who were armed. All they wanted us to do was "make the problem go away." Um, that is how the police make the problem go away. We arrest people who are breaking the law.
Or, they would call because a family member was violent and disruptive, and then become angry when we would arrest that family member for assault, or domestic violence. They just wanted us to "scare" the person.
I agree with the person who posted that you get the police department that you deserve.
If you will be responsible for your own actions, and not use the police dept. to harass others by showing up on bogus calls or call them because your eight year old won't go to school, then they will have the time and resources to handle the calls for service and do the pro-active patrol that they were trained to do.

Its a new society. Its not that they have lost faith in anything, they were raised to believe the cops were bad. I can take any carrer field out there and lose faith in it. What about all the doctors who have mistreated patients and they died because of it? No one loses faith in doctors. What about lawyers and politicians? They are some of the most corrupt people out there, yet we still have faith in them otherwise they wouldnt be around. A lot of people nowadays were raised by parents that grew up in the 60's and 70's when cops were seen as "pigs", and they had no respect. To this day those same people that were kids growing up in that time frame instill on their children right from wrong. Young people are only going off of what they learned. And if they gained that disrespect for police officers themselves, chances are they have had negative run ins that landed them in jail. Not saying everyone is a trouble maker and I am sure there are negativities towards police for other reasons, but based off of all the people I talk to, they hate cops cause they got caught doing something they shouldnt have.

Hi!
Because of their own laziness. A few years ago, I had good reason to know that the police force was ineffective in my community. A lot of the problem was related to the way the justice system was then framed and to a degree police hands were tied. I've been working on that at a number of levels, and we now have a really effective system that is not based on arrest and punishment, but on changing lives of disaffected people so that they grow up from anti-social ways to community building habits.
Working in unity with the whole community, including teachers, students, ex-offenders, victims of crime, the police and many others, my community is fast becoming the one I always wanted for my children. Perhaps my grandchildren will inherit something worthwhile because I didn't sit on the side whingeing but put my concerns into action.
Good wishes.

Because now the police are working for the Government not the people. Its the same with all the public services. The Labour party are nothing but fascists in disguise. Centrallising everything, preaching hatred and suspicion, with a mad dictator at the top.
Its not the fault of the police, they want local forces and local control. Its the same with health service, education and refuse collection.
Whatever your politics please vote this government out and give the power back to the people where it belongs.

The police like every other job have targets to reach so they aim to reach them by the easiest way possible. I don't believe that each individual policeman/woman really wants it to be like this. Its just what they are told to do. I haven't lost faith in the police, just the system that they have to follow, which when you look back goes to government. So I have lost faith in the government, not the police!
Also when you think about it, they have so many human rights rules to follow, is it any wonder that its easier to charge someone for a driving offence which is black and white, than get involved in a more complex human issue!?!

I do find that sometimes the police in certain areas of the us and probably the world due have an ego problem, but i have met some that just do their jobs and try to be as real as possible. It is sad tho that they seem to find pleasure in ruing peoples good time when the charge is mild and meaningless, but i have met some that just give the ticket and go on their way instead of making a huge deal over the whole thing, still you can't be mad at them if you do something wrong and they catch you, thats your dumbass fault.

I'm a police officer and I think it's crap too, it's all a complicated mess but it's not of my making, believe me if it wasn't for police officers on ground level bending over backwards to try and make it work you wouldn't have something that even comes close to being a functional police service.
Thanks for insulting me too you don't even know me, doesn't say very much for the kind of person you are!
You've got the answers then and can do it better, well just call your local police force and ask for the recruitment department.

I've just got back off duty (mean't to finish at 6am... but hey) and I've just successfully boiled an egg!
The Polcie are merely doing a job, and it's a job with rules and guide lines set by ....The Home Office, so if you want to moan... tell your story to them!
I love my job... wouldn't change it for anything! People lose faith because it's our failures that are made public and our successes that are kept secret... The media are creating a society of fear!

Police officers are just people. There's good ones, and bad ones. I think the biggest problem is in terms of the courts and administration. "Back in the day" it's true that cops weren't held as accountable for their actions... but it's also true that the GOOD cops could DO THEIR JOB. Now, everything is so bogged down with government and administration, most cops are just getting bogged down with paperwork and such nonsense.
