My 20 month old is having her first ear infection and teething at the same time.

She has been on anti-biotics for the last seven days and has been getting fevers when after she awakes from a sleep, normally in the middle of the night.

Can anyone offer advice on how to help her get over this quicker and the best way to ease the pain.

Also how long does it normally last?

Thanks

Why did your peditrician not tell you to use pain relievers?
We use to use tylenol and motrin, rotating off of one to the the other....for example tylenol at 8, 2 hours later dosage of motrin, at 12 a dosage of tylenol.
Dr's advice not mine, he's an old fashion dr, and let me tell ya it worked and God bless I thank him every time I see him.
This helps with the fever and also the inflammation in her ears. I suggest calling your dr and getting her back in for a check up on her ears and make sure they are cleared up.
Press the issue on the fevers and getting something for her relief.
Teething takes time (groan) I hated using orajel and cold teething rings cuz my kids hated them, until an old lady (mother herself) said for me to dip my finger in J.D. and rub the gums. I was desperate and tried it as last resort and it helped! This will be up to you, I only did it twice a day, thinking I was gonna hurt the kid somehow? it was my saving grace as well.
Cold wash rags and soft frozen waffles was the only thing my boys would teeth on. You can try giving her things to chew on to help relieve the pain and stress in this process as well, something to mash on for example.
As far as the length of time, again you have to get the ear infection out of the way first, and that could be an off and on again process while she's teething, it's normal.
Teething can be short or long, it's a process you'll have to grit your teeth and bare with it. But, insanity aside, lol, you can make it less unbearable with pain relievers, cool compresses, something to gnaw on.
Also, if your dr hadn't told you already, i had to learn the hard way, take out the dairy or limit it severly if possible. Dairy products produces mucous and lots of it which can feed into the ear infection and drainage problem, which you might also think about is if your child has an issues with allergies/sinusitis? You can still offer her milk/formula if she demands it but water it down or back down the servings, maybe even try rice or soy for the time being until she gets over the infection and drainage.
Good luck!

Try getting some hydrogen peroxide. I remember back when I was young I would get ear infections. My mother would take a cotton ball and a bottle of hydrogen peroxide, and she would put the cotton ball at the opening of the container. She would get half of it soaked in the hydrogen peroxide and place the wet end in my hear, and then she would have me tilt my head so that the peroxide would drip into the ear. This always seemed to help. The peroxide should clear the ear out. He shoudl hear a fizzing sound. Also another great thing is a beeswax candle funnel made for drawing out wax and such from the ear. You place the wax funnel in the ear. You take a cheap disposable pie pan and poke a whole through it. This is to catch the ash. And you light it up. This causes a vacuum and draws crud out of the ear.

Hmmmm normally antibiotics kick in pretty quicky with ear infections. Are you giving her any Calpol or liquid paracetamol? Thats about ALL you can give her, although you can alternate it with infant ibruprofen so that you are dosing every two hours.

e.g. calpol at 10 a.m.
brufen at 12.00
calpol at 2.00

and so on.

Good luck - poor little thing.
