Let's see, it goes...
I pledge my allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
If you "thesaurus" allegiance, it gives you loyalty, faithfulness, committment, adhereance, duty.
The Bible says at Matt 6:24 that no one can slave for two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stick to the one and despise the other.
You cannot pledge, that is, vow, oath, promise, guarantee,to have allegiance, that is, committment to the flag, which I agree represents 1 earthly government.
You will be doing exactly as the Bible says...you cannot "stick" to one without despising the other.

I think it is ironic that our flag, of the USA, is comprised of stars and stripes. The stars representing the states and the stripes representing the colonies.
Yet the Bible warnes against images that represent anything in heaven or on the earth. We used both stars (heaven) to represent states (earth).

I personally have pledged my allegiance to God's kingdom. Not this corrupted, violent, earthly kingdom.
Remember, we originated from Brittian...They even use the term kingdoms and have Kings and Queens.
So, next time you place your hand over your heart and swear your oath to this country and President Bush, just realize you made a choice out of the freewill Jehovah gave you to choose USA and not him.

As far as the cross...Jesus was put to death on a stake.
If my husband was killed by a gun, I would not buy a little gun pendant to wear around my neck. Sorta strange, isn't it.

I know that for some people, pledges of alliegance or honoring a flag, violate their religious beliefs. I have seen some Quakers, some christians of various denominations, and others, who feel this way. Some, because oaths are considered blasphemy, or encourages dishonesty and lying; or because alliegance is owed to God alone; or because it is for them a form of idolatry...

In the American legal system today, no witness or juror must swear, if they choose to affirm. Perhaps someday similiar accomodation will be honored in all arenas where oaths are still demanded (which include, for those wondering, much public employment and some student aid especially for state universities). It is archaic, but it exists.

I'm an American. I defend the right of these people too to live in freedom and practice their religion, if any. And in doing so, I honor the values many see behind the symbol, and the lives spent in its defense.

No it is not essential and no you can't be punished for it via legislation. You would say that it's towards your faith in view that you're a strict Christian and via reciting the Pledge of Allegiance you're being required to position your nation earlier than God, that is a enormous sin! Commandment quantity one states, you shall don't have any different gods earlier than me. You would additionally declare that via making you set your surrender your middle and appear on the flag they're inflicting you to worship fake idols. Commandment quantity 2 states, you shall no longer make for your self an idol within the style of some thing in heaven above or earth underneath or within the waters beneath. Both of those matters might infringe in your constitutional devout rights underneath federal legislation. So it doesn't matter what a instructor or most important could inform you, they can't override the government. I am no longer a Christian and I don't salute the flag or say the Pledge of allegiance, in view that of private ideals, however I appreciate and recall the individuals that died for my rights up to any individual. Anyway, I desire this is helping you a few.

THAT IS FAR FROM THE TRUTH......
the pledge has Gods name in it ,it's show respect to God and country and to all the soldiers who gave their lives and service to keep this land which we live on safe....it's more of a prayer.....an idol...I think not...so if you wear a cross on your neck or have one in your home that idolatry too, the cross is a symbol just like the flag , it's a remembrance of sacrifice....maybe you need to look up the word idolatry, because you seem a bit confused

Yes, pledging allegiance to a flag and your country is idolatry, that's why I don't do it. I won't even stand up when they ask you to stand and pledge allegiance to the flag, I see it the same as when Nebuchadnezzar wanted everyone to bow down to his huge image, the three Israelites would not even bow down and were thrown into the fiery furnace for it. They didn't have to worship it, just bow down, and they would do even that. I see no difference, bow down to a country's image or stand up for the flag. I've dedicated myself to God and put my trust in his kingdom.

It's not a form of worship. You're just confused on what worship is.

"show devotion to a deity"

Not to say you believe in the freedom of your country.

The flag represents something that gives everyone, including Jehovah's Witnesses the right to practice freedom of religion. As for Armageddon, I don't intend to be here, as the rapture of the church will already have occurred. You don't have to be here either, if you will only confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Only then will you know what true peace of heart is.
