I was just eating some beef Jerky and I started to think about it. As you chew, you just...know once you've chewed enough to swallow it. Before that you just know you can't do it. How does our body know once we've chewed enough?

It's my brain that tells me that I've chewed enough. I can feel the food in my mouth and when I feel that it's chewed enough, I swallow it. I consciously make the decision to swallow.

THe brain makes the decision that the food is soft enough and small enough to be swallowed without hurting us. If the brain didn't decide, we'd have swallowed a h*** of a lot of gum!

It's a reflex not controlled by us. Much the same way women don't know how much money they're spending when shopping for shoes. Jk.

It is not a decision that our bodies make.
