The word " sete" that is to say "thirst" ie lust or longing is related to the so called " Dukkha" idea in Buddhism. ( Longing in life)But what does it mean? Thirst ie lust or longing is equal to Karmic reason of Sorrow in life.
A clear explanation of that concept is to be found in Dhammapada( chapter XXIV). In short it sounds like that: longing( for everything in life and attachment too) creates Sorrow.Longing grows more and more in man's inattentive mind.
According to Buddhism a man who longs for everything lost memory of himself so " thirst" must be driven out and that can be achieved only by inner distance.
The connection thirst-sorrow ( cause and effect) is also found in Roman Stoicism. Epitteto( Diatribe Ch.IV)clearly exemplifies that idea.He says that what makes a man bad, what makes him mean is longing not only for power but also for tranquillity, spare time, travels and knowlegde.
So that's the meaning of " Longing in Life "
Ciao
