Generally speaking - whole, fresh foods are the healthiest by far. Processed, prepared foods tend to have things in them that aren't healthy. You ask what things are all ready to eat and are healthy - you have to be really careful. Become a label reader, check sodium and fat content, avoid trans fats and corn syrup like the plague.

Now, whole, fresh foods can be fairly easy to cook. I don't like to spend much time at all cooking. Seafood never takes long to cook, you can bake or grill it with no oil at all. You can fry it with just 1 Tbls or so of extra virgin olive oil and it's good and good for you. I love the Mrs Dash seasoning, there are several flavors. Cajun seasoning is also a fav of mine to put on fish or chicken.

Chicken can take a little while to cook but what I like to do is buy one of those 4-6lb bags of boneless, skinless breasts and cook them all up at once. I do this in a frying pan with just a little e-v olive oil and my favorite Mrs Dash. When it's all done I usually cut it all up into chunks and freeze it in a large baggie. When I'm cooking something that calls for chicken all I have to do is get a cup or two of this frozen chicken chunks and toss it into the dish. It thaws as the rest of the dish cooks. It's a big time saver!!!!

Veggies can be prepared fairly quickly in many ways. Saute them in just a little e-v olive oil with a sprinkle of seasoning. 5-10 minutes will cook most everything crisp tender. You can also steam them for just a few minutes but just steamed can be a bit bland so I like to toss them with just a little butter and seasoning after they're steamed. You can also bake many veggies and they're fabulous. Grilled squash is one of my favorites. Again I toss it will just a bit of oil and seasoning. Just a tsp or so of oil goes a long, long way. Also, some things are just good fresh, with no cooking at all. Most fresh fruits just need to be cleaned and cut up.

The person who said that only things that taste bad are healthy doesn't know what they're talking about. Fresh, whole foods are wonderfully flavorful. For example white rice is bland but brown rice is deliciously flavor full.

Unless you were underweight or quite slim in the first place, you don't need to eat more than about 200 calories more a day. That's a tablespoon of peanut butter or a few crackers more. Many doctors are returning to the recommendations that were made in the 50s. Gain no more than 15 pounds unless you are a teenager or underweight in the first place.
