If you mean which one has the best quality picture, they are pretty much the same.Whoever wins the format war will become the new standard for hi definition video .You can buy a player that has the two formats together for about $1,000 .00 and you will be able to see if one is better than the other.I am going to wait to see who wins and then purchase the second generation model of the winner which might have improvements.

Quality is very similar. Check out which movie selection you like better and get it. HD start at under $300 for Toshiba HD-A1. BD are from about $450 for Sony BDP-S300 for PS3.
You get 5 free BD mivies with a new player.
I have both, I like them both, so if you dont want to bother with the "format war" - just get both.

PS - Even though BD seems to have a slight edge over HD, porno industry just selected HD as it's format. Guess what killed Beta format in the 80s? Porno industry, which went with VHS.

You should get a Blu-Ray player. More major motion picture companies are supporting Blu-Ray, same with video rental stores.
