Ok.. well I've been acting like.. weird lately. ive been talking to my friend and hes noticed that i have some really huge mood changes.

like.. for example, i was talking to my friends and i was perfectly fine and happy, and one girl made a comment.. like, not even a mean one. it was sarcasm. and i was like "well FINE" or something and i just stormed way and got all pissed off for no reason, and i felt like crying.
and then other times i would be the happiest person ever, and like.. then start to feel depressed for no reason ever.

and lately ive been really extremely irritable. like, my dad will walk in my room, and ill just get so pissed at him for no reason.

I really think I might be bipolar. Oh and also, i'm 15, im a girl, and NO i am NOT PMSing lol.

I have bipolar and it took about a year for them to diagnose it. There is a lot more to it than having mood swings, are you staying up for 1 or more days, or sleeping too much, also do you make reckless decisions? These are just a couple of things to look at and I think you should go see your Dr. and ask her about signs to look for. Bipolar disorder is not easily diagnosed because there are so many factors to account for and so many behaviors to track so that you can get an accurate diagnoses. I hope you don't have it because it can be very difficult to live with and it is definitly looked down upon by people who don't understand.

Sarcasm is meant to hurt. It's mean, but it's funny. You don't sound bipolar just by that one incident. You reacted appropriately for someone your age. You were hurt and because you are a teenager, your emotions are wild and you haven't had enough experience dealing with emotions in a better way, so you got angry with the hurtful comment and cried. So what?

Bipolar disorder is characterized not by being literally happy one minute and sad the next. If anything, behaviour like that in an adult would be indicative of something other than bipolar. In a teen it's normal. Bipolar disorder does involve mood swings, but these mood swings last for at least a week to months or even years at a time! Yes, irritability and being oversensitive to critism is part of it, but only a small part of bipolar disorder.

You don't want to be bipolar. That's one of the most devestating things a doctor can tell you about yourself. I've been told it and I don't even believe it, but it's still awful. It doesn't make you special or at all interesting. It's a hellish existence of torture and despair. Be glad you sound like a normal teenager.

In ultra-rapid cycling bipolar disorder, mood swings can happen within seconds (I know, because that's the type I have). Looking back, I began to have problems at about age 7, and my psychiatrist agreed that was the age of onset in my case. Ask your parents about getting checked by a psychiatrist, not just your family doctor (mine had no clue in spite of the fact I have a severe case. He didn't even recognize I needed a psychiatrist).

It doesn't have to be PMS, it's puberty. It's still major physiological changes that can also effect your mood. Don't worry about being bipolar just yet. Most people don't have their first episode until they're out of their teens.
