That is an "urban legend" and not fact. Hitler blew his opportunity by not immediately following up after Dunkirk. If Germany had attempted a landing and been repelled it would have been widely disclosed for the morale factor. England did plan to dump oil into the sea and light it on fire in case of an invasion. However, the only burning oil on the sea came from ships sunk by U-Boats. However, today's invasion by radical Muslim terrorists is very real. Worry about what is happening to England now and not 67 years ago.

The germans did land on the channel islands but i dont think it was covered up.

As far as i know the burning oil into the sea was part of the beach defences in case the germans went ahead with sealion.

The british did pour burning oil down the river(?) during the defence of singapore in an attempt to stop the japanese crossing over a narrow channel on boats during a night time attack,
As far as i know they got across eventually anyway.

Most of what you say is not true. The germans never launched Operation Sealion, the proposed invasion of England.

The british, in their anti invasion preparations did try experiments with floating fuel on the sea and lighting it but the fuel was hard to ignite, large quantities of it were required and even small waves stopped it working. They also experimented with nozzles placed above high water mark which sprayed fuel and produced a wall of flame above he water. Again, it was not considered viable.

Several incursions into Britian were carried out by the Nazis.
The whole reason they flew bombing missions into England and flew buzzbombs was to weaken the British, so they could invade, and take the entire British isles. As far as an actual landing invasion, I don't see why (if it were attempted) they would cover it up...the Brits were really in need of help, and that would have drawn America in sooner. There were plenty of German spies in England, and vise-versa. Good question

I hear this rumour as well apparently it was not full scale invasion but a few troops on reconnaissance mission. Also apparently the story 'the eagle has landed' by Jack Higgins is based on a true story and the German paratroopers are buried in the village cemetery in a secret grave

The plan was to pump petrol into the sea if the germans attempted a landing.
It would have been extremely difficult to cover up an actual landing

YES!!!! Britain soil is occupied by German in WW2

Look at the history Channel Islands.

British military decided to leave the island and most of the civilians are captured.

The islands are occupied until the end of the war.

Why would the British cover up a success?.No invasion was actually attempted by sea or surface forces. There were plans to set the sea on fire and also petrol stored at major road intersections to set roads on fire to destroy convoys.

Hitler's generals had developed a plan to invade Britain, code-named "Operation Sealion," but it was never implemented. Hitler had other fish to fry in Europe and he had a reluctance to launch any large-scale military operation against them other than bomber flights. The brits did come close to being wiped out at Dunkirk, but even there, Hitler allowed them to escape across the English Channel.

Hitler hesitated starting Operation Sealion until Göring had air superiority. Unfortunately for Hitler, Göring never achieved that thanks to the Battle of Britain. Then like any good mad man, turned his attention toward Russia.
As for a German invasion of Britain covered up by the government....DOUBT IT!
