I started smoking it aged 16... I'm now 33...I'd say that I worried more about the cigarettes that were involved, but you can use a bong/pipe and skip the cigarettes. Despite being a smoker I managed to pass all my exams at 16, 17 and 18 and went to Uni where I obtained a degree (with all A or B passes for exams and essays)... maybe I'd be a genius if I'd never smoked weed in my life, perhaps I'm not reaching my potential as a result, but I doubt it, I think I've achieved a lot (and managed to chill & have fun too!!) If your getting a blood test they MUST explain what they are screening for and why and they MUST gain your consent... if you don't want them to do a test you can say no & don't need to give a reason, it's your body. So, if they are doing a full blood count to check your iron status, they can't just decide to do a toxicology screen with the blood just for the hell of it (or any other screening, it MUST only be the one you consented too). It's basic medical ethics. If it is a toxicology screen and you can't get out of it then it's worth knowing that taking ibuprofen could also cause the test to come back +ve ;-) I'd be lying if I said it was 'good' for you. But then I like a steak and that's not necessarily good for you. I love cheese, but dairy's not necessarily good for you. A lot of the affects, positive and negative, are down to the individual. People with mental health issues or prone to depression should probably steer clear as it can trigger anxiety and panic, make you lethargic etc. I'm a great believer in 'everything in moderation' and there's a hell of a lot of other things out there much worse (and legal - cigarettes, alcohol...). The benefits of 'weed' are now beginning to be medically recognized and certain chemicals from it are being extracted and used to treat certain conditions (unlike cigarettes & alcohol...). There's also the argument that it's a "gateway drug" and will inevitably lead to taking other drugs, but I'm yet to meet anyone who thought "I'm bored with weed, l think I'll give heroin a try...". Of my friends maybe a handful are pot smokers and they are no less funny, charming, caring or responsible than the non smokers and despite what the "I've never smoked it myself but feel qualified to preach on the subject" mob will tell you, they've never been in jail, arrested (who's got the energy to break the law when they're stoned?) and they all hold down good well paying jobs. This is a good site with info on all types of drugs...

Jesus listen to this. Pot kills brain cells? Not. You won't find any studies that show that. It's bad for your lungs, but there havn't been any studies done linking it to cancer either. That said, it will make it harder to run or anything like that.
It's bad for you in the sense that you can get arrested for it as well.
Nobody's ever died from a marijuana overdose. Can't say that about alcohol which also causes liver damage, throat damage, is involved in most accidents and is very addictive. It's also an enjoyable way to pass time, and if you use it responsibly, it's much safer than alcohol. All I've got to say is don't beleive everything people tell you. Do some research (check my sources) and learn about it for yourself (the first source has experience reports from people who did it and lots of studies and links) and make a good, educated choice about what you want to do.

It's not as bad as people have demonized it to be. Now it does impair judgment and slow reaction time, but not any more than does alcohol (which I believe to be a much more dangerous drug than marijuana). There have actually been some benefits associated with it: It helps relieve pain, it increases the appetite (important for AIDS, cancer, and other patients with diseases), some studies have shown cancer inhibiting properties, anti-oxidant properties, lowers blood pressure and chance for heart disease, and the list goes on. There's more and more studies coming out because it hasn't been until the past decade or so that scientists have been able to perform long-term tests. Of course there's the issue of lung cancer, but that can be avoided by extracting the THC and taking it another way.
Pot was demonized because it was such a good, easy to grow crop, that tobacco, cotton, synthetic fiber manufacturers would lose a lot of money if it was legalized. It's induction as a narcotic was closely tied into the rise of the polyester industry.
Update: If it were legalized, it would be much cheaper than cigarettes (before the gov't started taxing the hell out of them). But the gov't should make it legal, tax the hell out of it, let all the pot convicts out of jail. Much much more money for the gov't.

It's not bad for you. No one can prove it kills brain cells, other than the amount of brain cells that are naturally killed by holding your breath. There is also no conclusive proof as to how damaging it is to your lungs. People who spit out statements like "weed kills brain cells" as facts are not doctors and have most likely never read a single study on weed, other than maybe a D.A.R.E. pamphlet they were handed in grade school.
I can't see how any smoke going through your lungs is good, but I don't think marijuana comes anywhere close to being as bad for you as a cigarette. Living in a city these days, the air is probably more damaging in the long term.

People who have not smoked it or are against it will of course say no, but it expands your mind greatly and there is no scientific proof that even heavy users of pot develop lung cancer like cigarette smokers so go ahead and experiment and decide for yourself. Don't let closed-minded people dictate your life.

In my opinion, anything that you have to obtain illegally (or legally in the case of alcohol), spend lots of money on, and waste valuable time you could use to be doing something productive, is bad. Not only that, it stinks! It's a waste of time and energy and healthy body. I don't understand why "activities" such as drinking and doing drugs are new "hobbies" ... ANYONE can do those things! But it's usually people that aren't creative enough to come up with anything else to do.

Its bad for you, it messes up you synaptic pulses within your neurons and ultimately the brain. You get slow after taking pot because it is killing brain cells at a faster rate. The bad part about it is that brain cells dont replicate once you lose it.

Take it from me - just don't do it. Pot might seem benign but remember it stays in your system for a long time and can kill your brain. One of my friends got a DUI for having pot in her system while driving but she hadn't smoked for a month. It just isn't worth it plus it screws up your brain if you do it enough.
