For instance, a so-called Christian is caught having an adulterous affair. Should the church discipline that person and expel him or her until he or she forsakes the adulterous relationship?

Iwould say discipline yes but expel him from the church no. Take away any possible responsibilities he may have and limit his involvement until he is repentent but I do not see a spiritual benefit to having him not be able to attend and become one again with his spiritual family.

I don't see what good would come out of a person LEAVING a church during a time of crisis. Action should be taken by the church, but it should be done on a personal level that's meant to help the person. If you're forced out of church, you're going to be more likely to continue that sinful lifestyle since you don't have the support of other Christians to repent.

Of course not. It is not Christians duties to judge. It is God's job. A very ill person goes to the hospital. Likewise a sinner needs the church more than anyone.

Never kicked-out from the church or ex-communicate a believer of God.
Church leaders should have counselling to counsel for the betterness of human family lives.
If both previous family needs to be saved, then thet them go back to their own family & work on counselling to prayer of healing & forgiveness for both family and strike on plans of deviating pathways for both family lives.
Emotions & excitement can be impulsive & temporary so how about plans & guidance for preventions and further future damage to the stable family unit that had been already established for years.
If both family lives is in imminent destructions...you have to determine their motives, firm decisions of going through another marriage/family establishment with ongoing stress, trials & tribulations of life for years...then the church should do intensive guidance, healing, seminar and prayers of forgiveness for help & support of any God`s believers.
...I guess, telling them too, only "you" yourself can ask forgiveness from God, only yourself are liable to the greatest sin they commited (having destroyed a family unit they created themselves), and it is up to God for their judgement.
Church should never judge a God`s believer because only God sees their heart & spirit.
Church just lead people to God.

So, Good Luck !!! ...and ... Be Blessed !!!

Shouldn't the church and members, as good christians, provide support and try to save him rather than punishing? You send missionaries into foreign countries to convert them, but you excommunicate your fellow countrymen. What kind of an example does that set?

They need to deal with the leaders and elders for diciplinary action for their consequences. They can ask them if they are not seriously repented for committed adultery. They will not tolerate because sins can grow and stumble other Christians.

If they are unrepentant, they aren't really Christians. Jesus said.
"Not everyone that saith unto me Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my father which is in heaven". Matt 7:21
Not all those who profess to belong to Christ, are his.

Well, I guess they could kick these people out, but I'd rather poke 'em with a stick!

You Christians sure have your judgmental buttons pushed tonight. Hellfire and brimstone for everyone. Step right up.

When is the last time you heard Jesus teach such crap?
