I have been told on many occasions that UPCI is simular to a cult.. ????? Is this True has the Church that i held close to my heart can be compared to that .. i mean that they are "Radical" about cirtan thing and some of their rules seem alittle odd but does that mean that they are a cult.. i mean im only seventeen and dont know much about Cults..sooooooo!!!! Because name-calling is the last resort of an exhausted mind. When people have the truth, they argue the truth. When they don't have the truth, they call names.
These "christians" cannot cogently argue against the doctrine the UPC preaches, so they grope for something to validate their prejudices.
MANY churches and/or religious organizations have dress codes to one degree or another and the Bible SPECIFICALLY says to disfellowship those who sow discord by rebellion and false doctrine.
If they don't believe the Bible, that's one thing, but this pick and choose which Scriptures to believe attitude from so-called Bible-believing Christians takes the cake.

The United Pentecostal Church holds to certain practices - tithing, a certain dress code, shunning of those who leave the group, and an unhealthy type of rejection of the world.
I don't know if these are doctrinally necessary, or if the church just draws in people who tend towards this sort of lock-step approach to religion. They are, however, present in the friends and family that I have who are members of UPCI.
You have to answer for yourself whether or not your pastor has an unreasonable sway over you and your family members. I'm sure some UPCI churches are a little more moderate than others.
People on the inside aren't the best ones to judge. After all, if *you* thought it was a cult, you'd leave.
