We never had any liquor in our house at all. Even cooking with it was a sin. Is there doctrine that clarifies this or is it one of those things that people just interpret the way they want to?:

that reminds me of a funny story, My dad ordered some dessert made with Grand Marnier at a restaurant because he didn't know what that was and my mom told him he shouldn't eat things cooked with alcohol. He ended up not eating it

Mormons cook with liquor all the time. That is not wrong of them. It is pretty obvious why.

There is an old joke: Never take only one Mormon fishing. Take two. If you take one, they will drink all your beer. If you take two they won't touch it. While they whine that I am picking on them with the joke, they have to admit that this sort of thing is exactly why they are sent out in pairs for missionary work and home teaching.

Okay, first off, it is not a sin to drink, it is not a sin to drink a lot, the sin is in your actions after you drink a lot. Therefore it is not wise to drink a lot because it leads to sin, but one may have a drinkon occasion as long as they can handle it. Secondly, it you cook with a Beer or liquor, the alcohol content cooks off and all you have is flavor, therefore ther is no sin in cooking with alcohol.

Considering the alcohol burns off in the cooking process I think they are ok. And also considering Jesus' first miracle in the Bible was turning water into wine (after the wedding guests had ALREADY consumed ALL of the available wine) I would say He would even be ok with you drinking it. He was without sin & made wine. If it's sinful to make it, have it in your house, or drink it then His first miracle would have been a sin.

this is a perfectly ideal ratio. applying a jigger can help with the proportions. One shot = a million a million/2 oz..that's the better cone aka the jigger whilst the smaller cone is 1oz aka the horse. i could propose the two paying for some highball glasses for weaker beverages or 86'ing such beverages as long island Iced Tea's, Margaritas, and different such beverages that use a mixture of alcohols to that end requiring larger glasses.

Alcohol evaporates at a relatively low temperature, so it's gone after cooking and addition 15-20 minutes. Also note that vanilla extract you buy at the store is 10% alcohol; same goes for most of your liquid flavorings.

As to having NO alcohol period in your house, that's a personal choice.

One of my bishops regularly bought rum to make homemade vanilla.

I believe they don't use liquor because the alcohol will defile the body (their "temple"). However, when you cook with liquor, all of the alcohol cooks out so it's really just flavored liquid at that point.
