Is He telling us here specifically TO judge?
Isn't He telling us here to judge righteous judgment?

B, I'm TRYING to bring THIS one home to somebody that needs it (and wants it). Thank you. I have seen, and HEARD, many people misapply the teaching of Jesus, to their own destruction, on this subject.

The stories Jesus tells us concerning judging is clear.

Jesus told the Jews he that is without sin cast the first stone, no one cast a stone at the woman.

Remove the log (beam) in your eye so you can see clearly to take the speck from your brothers eye.

Our laws say he should die, the Jews speaking of Jesus.

What you bind on earth is also bound in heaven and what you lose on earth is also lose in heaven. Jesus is telling us that the judgments that we make on earth we will be judged by the same words we used when we are in heaven .

If we judge some one falsely we will judged by the same measures by which we judged.

Jesus judges no man, Jesus only judges spirirts and his judgment is just, because he judges us by the same meausres they we judged.

Hi JayDee,

Somehow I like what you've said that some people 'misapply' teachings from the scriptures to their own destruction. It's biblical and it was said by Apostle Peter.

2 Peter 3:16

"as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; wherein are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unstedfast wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. "

Now, you're specifically asking about John 7:24 and let's read the verse:

" Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment. "

I can see that you're a meticulous person and it's good, especially if you apply it in reading the scriptures.

You said it correctly, It's really a commandment to 'JUDGE A RIGHTEOUS JUDGMENT' as clearly stated in the verse.

The apparent next question of people would be, "What is a righteous judgment?"

The answer is ALSO IN THE VERSE. A righteous judgment is NOT ACCORDING TO APPEARANCE. Why is that? To give you an idea, let's read James 2:1-3:

"My brethren, hold not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

For if there come into your synagogue a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, and there come in also a poor man in vile clothing;

and ye have regard to him that weareth the fine clothing, and say, Sit thou here in a good place; and ye say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or sit under my footstool;

Do ye not make distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts? "

YOU see, Apostle James taught the Christians NOT TO DISCRIMINATE. Not to based their judgment on appearance. It was experienced and seen by early people that most men judge based on appearance:

1 Samuel 16:7

" But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. "

A righteous judgment is NOT based on appearance.

Sure he is...and before you start thinking, "but what about the "judge not", I think it is pretty clear that God commands us NOT to judge the salvation of others and to leave non-believers to him...but he also commands us to judge those that claim to be believers! Jesus left people in charge of the church and it makes sense that he (and the father) wouldn't want people that claim to be believers to give believers a bad name. The bible tells us to expel the immoral brother so that he won't cause others to turn away from him! Far too many Christians forget this when they start judging the sins of non-believers...that's a sin in itself and they should be condemned by the church for doing so!

"Do not think that I [Jesus] have come to abolish the Law (the Old Testament) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law (the Old Testament) until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 5:17-18)"

"Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 'The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.' (Matthew 23:1-3)"

Here is what Paul said regarding the ruling authority:

"The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment. (1 Corinthians 2:15)"

We all judge each other rather we admit it or not. When we first meet someone or see someone, we make a mental note of that person, what kind of person they are, if they are good or bad in our opinion, and all this without even speaking to them. We are to "judge" on what is on the inside of a person. Image, outside appearance isn't what we are to look at.

Jesus was talking to self-righteous religious bigots--he knew those finger pointing hypocrites always saw sin in others--but never in themselves--seems nothing has changed over the years!!!

Why not try and figure out how you would want to be judged and go from there?

If you read a popular book that told you to light your hair on fire, would you?
