I am not religious. I just don't connect with religion. I wish I did and I am open to finding it some day. I am however very afraid of death. Specifically, I am afraid of the end of everything forever. If you too had this fear, yet have come to peace about it, please share what you did or what happened to allow you to do so.

I used to be absolutely terrified of death. Then, I realized, it wasn't the afterlife part that I feared- heaven; it was the actual unknown process. Like, how painful will it be, etc, as well as the people I leave behind. Will our children/granchildren be o.k. Have I taught them everything I should. Praise God, all of our children are believers, so I know that I will see them again. It is just the lack of control of the whole thing, the unknown, the process, that is what always got to me. I know now that it doesn't matter, when I get to where I am going, it will all make sense, now, it doesn't, and that is o.k. with me. Surrender, let go of the control, that is what did it for me... What a journey!

Well, first off, 'What's the point?" is probably the wrong question. "What shall I decide is the point?" is a better one. The point is up to you. The idea that there needs to be some greater point is just religious baggage you can leave in a locker somewhere. Second, there is no eternity of non-existence. Time is subjective, so think of it this way: Time stops when you die. The universe ends. The show is over. You won't know it. There will be no credits at the end. Therefore, in a manner of thinking, you are going to live forever. Death is. It happens to everyone, like rain. All worrying about it does is use up time you could be using to enjoy life. Ignore it or embrace it, it doesn't care. It is not an 'it.' It's an event scheduled to occur. get in what you want to do before then.

Why fear death, when Christ, the King holds the keys, for He alone has concoured death. Death in the Words of almighty Jesus is sleep. When you go to sleep the next thing you remember is waking, and it seems as though a short time has passed. Don't fear death, for all wiLL awake unto new life in Christ, our King.

1Co 15:54 But when this corruptible shall put on incorruption, and this mortal shall put on immortality, then will take place the Word that has been written, "Death was swallowed up in victory."
1Co 15:55 "O death, where is your sting? Hades, where is your victory?"

I am a believer, and I hate religion. I know that is surprising, but, I hate man made religion that tells you to do, do, do to be acceptable to God. Christianity says, it is done. You don't have to do anything to be saved, it is all a work of God. God decides whom He will save, and who He won't. As a believer, I do not fear death at all, it is merely a passage to eternity with Christ. This is just our training ground for eternity. If He calls you, if you see that you are a sinner in need of a savior, and that savior is Christ Jesus, then rejoice, for one who does not belong to God will not acknowledge his sin or need for a savior. I pray that you are of the elect.

I think everyone has some level of fear of death. It is the end...and it is the unknown. After losing many loved ones, I just have begun to accept my own mortality as part of life. I'm not looking forward to it, but it's going to come anyway. When things are inevitable, you have to accept it. I wish I had better advice than that. I think it becomes easier as you get older.

Just think of the other things in your experience that are like death and ask if you're afraid of them. Chances are the only things that you can think of that are *like* death are simply physically painful. Most of the actual experience of death is simply unknown.

I only hope that at the time of death I don't experience tooooo much pain and I'd like to avoid indignity (but hey, we're all gonna crap our pants, right?)

I dont think people are really afraid of death, they are afraid of the unknown. Me, Iam not afraid of death. I accepted it long long ago and have been at deaths door a few times in my life.
