I highly suggest you go and visit that area first before you decide on moving there.
People who go to the college there, only live on campus... it is NOT a safe neighborhood. I suggest looking at Huntington Beach or Santa Monica or Laguna Beach. It will be expensive to live anywhere in Cali. SAVE YOUR MONEY UP!
Cali is beautiful, but there is definitely a HIGH price for the beauty. So really research everything before you decide to pack your things and move out West.

Denton Tx is a nice town with a rich history but come out West. Freedom Writers is a true story about an Orange County teacher trying to resolve an inner city high school problem. Long Beach is a great town. Don't compare it to L.A.., where the mayor got caught with his chorizo in the nookie jar. There are two major colleges, L.B. City and Long Beach State (California State University Long Beach.. nicknamed "The Beach") CSULB is a very international campus with some great sports teams. With that comes brains and skills from all over the world. There are dorms and apts nearby..as well as frat and sorority houses. 'The clubs and restaurants are just a few blocks away on and of course so is the beach scene. The city is though also culturally diverse and thus has its interracial conflicts . these though occur in the center of town and are sporadic. There are Cambodians, Afro Americans, Whites and Spanish (Mexican and Salvadorian) and sometimes there are feuds ( a cross b/t a misunderstanding and a sh*t howdy.) There are better opportunities for work near campus and plenty of citizens with similar interests. For more encouragement you know where to reach me.

I used to live in LA a year ago but then i moved to Dallas (Carrollton), but Honestly i recommend you stay in Denton, its way cheaper. one may thing. LA can be a little dangerous seeing how there is a lot of gang violence there, you can not be going out by your self at night unless you go to Anaheim or somewhere in the OC. I seriously recommend you stay in Denton, LA is way to expensive and theres to much competition when it comes to work, LA is a good place if you plan to visit for a few weeks but not for living. Stay in Denton or move somewhere you are more familiar with. LA can have many surprises.

PS: In a few years gas will probably be in the $4 range, rent for a one bedroom apartment can come up to as high as $900 a month. You can probably do the math. And vehicle registration can be very expensive.

Liam, since I have never heard of Denton and don't know where the heck it is, so based just on that alone I would move....Long Beach must be great because mobilemark's parents live there and he turned out nice , so it must be pretty good there...I don't know what the " freedom writers" are ...sounds like a new gang or something, like the Crips ???? Come on out, nothing is written in stone, You don't have to stay forever if you don't like it..

The worst mistake that I ever made became into getting pregnant at 17 with the aid of a no solid guy. He lied approximately being married and each little thing! He merely advised me the actuality once I advised him that i became into pregnant. And the worst part of all of it became into that the guy left me to be a single mom. properly, that became into 6 years in the past. i'm now 23 and my son is 5. we are the two chuffed and doing properly. I easily have a school degree, a solid job and a solid guy in my existence. My son and that i even have not have been given something extra to do together with his no solid father.

Don't move there. I just spent about a year in LA - Santa Monica area.

Good things:
beach

Bad things:
parking
high rent and constantly increasing
high car insurance
high gas prices
horrible air quality - always brown and smoggy, can't even see Hollywood sign from street on most days
mean/superficial people
expensive as hell groceries
hot as hell in summer
most apartments with no AC
unbelievable traffic
getting car to pass smog check - cost me $500

When all is said and done, the quality of life is shlt compared to what you pay. It's just not worth it.

There are many better places to move than the LA area. Try Northern CA or Idaho.

Coming from some one who has lived in MANY areas of California.... L.A., Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Sacramento.... L.A. had to be the worst. Bad pollution, annoying people, ridiculous hit, expensive, tourists jamming up the place, did I mention the pollution? Even the beaches are polluted and gross.

I moved to LA when I was 17. It is still my favorite city and I have fond memories of it.

Take weekend in L.A. and see if you like it.
