Hmmm, good point. We're really no better than the average bear.
Motherhood, in my book, is overrated simply because it is expected to be the primary goal of every woman. The last label I would wear in the world is "mother."

In what sense is motherhood "over-rated"? Why do you not clarify exactly what you mean. Yes, every animal reproduces and like all animals, its an innate desire to do so.
However, unlike animals, humans tend to bond with their children like no other species on this earth. Most of us (obviously not all, i.e. child abusers, dead beats, etc.) will do anything for our child/ren. If you have to ask this question, being a foster mother of 15, then I feel sorry for you. If you for one minute did not share a bond with any of those children being a mother to them, then they got the crappy end of the stick, while you got paid. Is that the reason you were a foster mother, for the money? It does not seem like you even cared for those kids with the coldness in which you ask that question. You show a lot of integrity (with sarcasm in my voice) for a mother of 15.
Motherhood is many things, but not over-rated. And yes both sexes for the most part, obviously not all, contribute to being parents. It is the families where both mother and father can keep it together and raise children who function healthfully in society that deserve that "oh wow look at me" attitude. There is a lot working against the traditional family values in society and it is those families that have been able to weather the storms that deserve that awe. Because it takes the contribution of both the man and the woman to raise children.

no, it's not....as a life experience it's the best I've had.
"Every animal on the planet reproduces..."
there's a massive oversimplification. Humans have the longest dependency period and are just a tad more complex than, say, calves or bear cubs.
"admit that both sexes contribute to the event"
yeah, no kidding, I'm familiar with the basic concepts of reproduction.
"expect more than an "oh wow look at me" attitude?"
what on Earth are you talking about?

Obviously, you lack maternal instinct!! Being a foster mom is different. Oh yeah, plus the state pays you money in being a foster parent !! The biological Mother is the one who feels a little person growing inside, feels those kicks, and BONDS before the child is born. Men cannot ever experience this !! As they say, if it was up to men to have children, there would be ZERO population.,

Being as the female is usually the sole caregiver, the answer would be NO. You probably do not have a child/ren and have no idea what you are even talking about.
So what if you had 15 foster children. I actually feel sorry for the children you took care of. You do not seem to be a very loving, nurturing, and understanding person if you knock motherhood. You seem like a bitter and unfulfilled woman.

just foster children, never your own? is that why you seem sour? i couldnt imagine if i wasnt able to have children. maybe for a very few its overrated if they were not expecting the work that comes with it but most mothers have children because thats what they want and enjoy. yes both sexes contribute and lots of men are proud when their wives are preg and make wonder full fathers, i know some men are crap but not all. being preg is wonder full and for most exciting . i know many women have had babies for many years but that doesnt make it any less exciting for the mother to be .

Know the number of single mothers out there?
Besides, most of the time after sex, the male just leaves to go find more females or gets chased off by the female. Or gets his head bitten off. So it isn't exactly balanced in the animal world.

I think the answers you got in this question are quite self-explanatory... most male humans are not very responsible... If a guy is responsible and proves himself as having contributed to the event... then I'll be willing to admit that he's contributed to the event.... until then... women are the primary care takers.

You have got to be either high or just completely ignorant. Obviously you don't have any children. You have no idea. It makes me wonder, what kind of mother you must have had. Sad, simply sad.
