From some of the stuff I've read on R & S, not really.

Nope, not odd at all. A comedy club would have good seating, a sound system, and it would be deserted on Sunday morning. I've attended churches in warehouses, sporting arenas, high school gyms, an old circus tent, and more. As a child I attended a church that met in an empty storefront in a old strip mall...we had to move when the owner rented another shop to an adult bookstore (the city had laws that prohibited churches from locating within xxx feet from adult bookstores and bars).
The church I attend now has three locations (the fourth opens in August). The main campus is a traditional church, the second in a nearby town meets in a movie theater and one opening in another town in August will meet in an athletic club...the final location is on the Internet (http://www.reallifeconnect.org).
A church isn't a building...it is a group of people that get together for fellowship, learning, and worship...Jesus didn't go to a church, he sat on the side of a mountain (well, a hill really esp. if you're from the Rocky Mountain region).

Maybe the church is undergoing some restoration and The Hartford Funny Bone Comedy Cafe & Restaurant is centrally and conveniently located... ?

I'm not sure.... There are fundie christian 'comedians' out there.
Not at all funny, or even able to grasp the concept of comedy, but they do their usual 'ain't em afeists beat all' routine.
(You may have seen them on here.)
Then again, maybe it's just a space that is going to be empty and will have the seating they need.
I love that having a church in a mall violates the mall's lease.

Maybe they are renovating their church and needed some place to hold services. Or they're building a new one & it's not quite finished yet. There's more to this story I'm gathering, than meets the eye. And how does that violate the club's lease? Oh, OK, maybe they can't sublease it to them, I guess.

Barbara,
I certainly do. If they need a comedy club to get their members to services then they are not much of a Church in my opinion. GOD'S WORD should be enough. Have a wonderful day.
Thanks,
