I know this seems like a really dumb question, but on the back of the "Listerine with fluoride" mouthwash bottle, it says, "DO NOT SWALLOW", and "do not eat or drink for 30 min. after rinsing".
After I finish rinsing, the minty flavor makes my mouth salivate because I guess my brain has come to connect mint flavor with some sort of mint candy or food. So for the next 30 min. after rinsing, should I swallow my saliva, or spit out any saliva for the next 30 min. (which would obviously be very inconvenient)?
Also, should I rinse my mouth out with water after rinsing with the mouthwash or not (since the label says do not eat or drink for the next 30 min.)?

yes, you can swallow. if this is a mouthwash that you bought at a grocery/ drug store that is not prescribed, it doesn't even contain enough fluoride to make you sick after a rinse. however, spit out as much of it as you can to eliminate a possible upset stomach. as for the 30 min, nothing to eat or drink so that the fluoride has enough time to sit on the teeth to be able to do it's job. with is to help prevent/ fight tooth decay.

I don't know what the big deal is with fluoride, but I've read that it's not good for human consumption in excess. Dentists, doctors & the entire medical field claim that fluoride is beneficial for maximum dental hygiene. I guess ALCOA, Aluminum Company of America must think the same thing, because that's 1 of the main sources of fluoride.
I'd say, don't swallow, spit!

Spit out as much as you can & then feel free to swallow. It won't kill you.

Don't rinse with water after the mouthwash - you'll wash all the fluoride off!

"No not eat or drink for 30 minutes after rinsing" isn't because of the fluoride or alcohol -- it's because it takes a little while for the fluoride on the teeth to be absorbed, and the company wants it to be absorbed, before you eat/drink and wash it away.

Swallow, by all means (your spit, not the rinse)

They only say do not eat or drink for 30 min because the medication in the bottle is still working hard to fight germs, you can however swollow your own saliva :) No worries there :)

HELLO,
THE DIRECTIONS ARE SIMPLE TO UNDERSTAND.
YOU RINSE THEN SPIT OUT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, AND JUST SAFELY SWALLOW AFTERWARD.
