I would have to answer your question with this question - Is it right for our Congress and President to take vacations & recess breaks while the US has troops in conflict?

I would have to says NO. But it happens and I can understand that people need a break and rest from such responsibility. The Iraqi Government has a very daunting task - Building a government and military to take care of and secure 23 million people. It's a big job. They can't do it over night and to think they can is being totally unreallistic. Give them a chance, they have a lot of obstacles.

Besides, in August the temperature in Baghdad is over 110 degrees daily. I don't blame them, but they need to get back to work soon.

Our Soldiers are not getting time off for what ever the reason..
The Iraqis have barely met 8 of the 18 guidelines and more progress needs to be shown by Sept? Our President says that the progress is satisfactory??Iraqi Army is making some progress according to my husband who is currently in Iraq. His Soldiers had been part of the training of the IA for the last 10 months. In the last 3-4 months the IA was JUST getting out of their vehicles when they were taking small arms fire when out on patrol!! They seemed to be more then happy to let the Americans handle it..Of course it isn't like this everywhere but I certainly don't think my hubby's experience with the IA is the exception either.
Whatever the reason for the time off for Iraqi Parliament..it sure doesn't look good from this side..Does it???
A Proud Army Wife!! HOOAH!!

11. MYTH: Iraqis are going on a two-month holiday and are not defending their own country.

* FACT: Iraq’s Parliament decided not to take a two-month recess and instead will continue working on legislation critical for Iraq’s future.
* FACT: Iraqis are enduring two to three times the casualties U.S. forces are.
* FACT: Our commanders report that Iraqi Security Forces are growing in number, becoming more capable, and assuming more responsibility. Iraqis are often leading raids and stopping suicide bombers at checkpoints. As Gen. Petraeus puts it: “The Iraqi army has, in general, done quite well in the face of some really serious challenges. In certain areas it really is very heartening to see what it has done.”

I won't say whether it's right or not, but little gets done in August in the Middle East or Europe. Many people take month long vacations to the Med. Go to Malaga Spain and pick up Swedish girls. The only thing on the street in the Middle East from noon to 4PM are crazy Americans in cowboy boots.

Is it right for them to take some time off while Americans fight and die? Please remind me because I seem to have forgotten. When exactly did Iraq invite us to invade their country and create the chaos our troops are currently battling?
