I think your dog is bored, so that it chases shadow and light, just like it chases its tail. Play more often with it, becuase it may prefer to play with you to chasing shadows and light; and if you are not free, buy it more toys, maybe then it will find playing toys more interesting than chasing things!! Good luck to you!

Or maybe your dog is a hound, so that it likes chasing things?

Your dog is playing what we call flashlight tag. A friend of mine had a Dalmatian who would do this all the time. You need to try and keep the light lower as to not produce so much shadows. Try playing with your dog so it has something to do besides sit around and look for shadows. Talk it for walks, play fetch. Redirect the dog if it is bothering you. I personally like playing flashlight tag with my Border Collie.

She sounds like she wants to play. She's playing by herself. Maybe you can play with her by getting a laser pointer and letting her chase it or playing another game. Maybe even consider getting her another dog to play with.

its only natural. try playing with herore often. may be creepy but he may acually be chasing spirts. my dog does it. but that may just be me and my beliefs. don't listen to stupid things others are saying. like put her sleep, blindfold him, ect. she's just trying to have some fun. dogs are like kids, they have imaginations. my dog used to run around in straight lines back in fowarth, like an idiot. ha. but he got over it. you have to remember she is still a puppy and does need extra fun. she'll eventually get over it. good luck =]

LOL

But that is so CUTE when they do that! Are you sure she is chasing shadows? Maybe there is a fly, nat, or something else that she is really chasing that you do not see.

Put a blindfold on him.
