Holes in one.

From a grammatical point of view, In an expression made up of separate words, the main noun ('hole') is the one that should be made plural.

In this particular expression, the word 'one' in 'hole in one' is not even a noun, so cannot be made plural. This is because it' is short for 'in one shot', as in 'I got the ball into the hole in one shot'. If you did this several times, you would have got the balls into the holes in one shot (each time).

I say it would be HOLE IN ONES, because if someone said to me that they got three HOLES IN ONE I would ask THREE HOLES IN ONE WHAT? A SOCK?

This is a question of grammar. The proper way is "holes in one" because whenever you have a noun with a prepositional phrase in it, the plurality falls on the noun before the preposition. Also, think of it like this. How many "holes" are there on a golf course? (18) How many "ones?" (Doesn't make sense) So, how can there be hole in "ones?"
