Overall, even though all the other answers mentioned are equally important, beach erosion is the most damaging and having the most drastic affect. States with shorelines are spending millions of dollars a year trying to restore or replace lost sand but are unable to keep up. Part of the loss is due to natural occurrences like hurricanes and such but at least 1/2 is caused by humans constructing hotels, casinos and other excessively high, narrow buildings without proper sea walls or planning. When buildings are designed according to the land layout and appropriate seawalls are added, it is being discovered, the loss of sand is not nearly as drastic. We are losing more than mere feet or yards per year of shoreline.

The biggest problem is too much building (homes, condo's etc). being done on the shore line.
Over building causes:
water pollution
beach erosion
higher property insurance rates for everyone
beach access being denied to the general public
loss of fishing access to the general public
sewage overflowing into the ocean from the sewers
Stop the damage to our shorelines and beaches....regulate development now!

PS...Touma...my brother and I used to regularly fish the waters off New York City (in the Atlantic Ocean)....and we would see used condoms floating in the waters. The problem was so common that the fisherman's term for these used condoms was "Coney Island Whitefish".
Disgusting but true.
