I personally dont find anything wrong with kids drinking diet pop. My kids do and they are plenty healthy as you stated it helps keep the calories down for the kids as well as it does for adults. There are way to many over weight kids in society. With that being said diet pop does contain sacchrin which I have heard can cause cancer. I do question as to weather it really does or not, which is why I continue to allow my kids to drink diet pop. Kind of along the same line as allowing my children to eat eggs when they are good for you one week and bad for you he next. Who really knows just do what you feel is best for your children.

It depends who you ask there have been several articles and studies that say there are many problem caused by diet soda and the artificial sweeteners used in them. How ever for every study you find that says something there is another that says just the opposite. There is a risk that is very scary but its a choice only you as a parent can make. Me personally I would rather my boys drink juice or water but they just can't resist the lure of soda some times. So they are allowed soda in moderation.

I'd say the sugar is better than the artificial sweetners. I let my daughter have regular sprite or certain brands of root beer that are caffeine free (also at restaurants or bday parties, other's houses). She's allowed one small serving, then must have water afterwards, I don't get any arguments. She's also 4.

Those are my rules... don't ask me what grandma allows.

I don't like the idea of kids that young having soda whatsoever! And least of all DIET!? I know you don't like the idea of your little girl having all that sugar, and with that being said, I'm surprised you even LET her have soda of any kind! But to pick the lesser of two evils, I'd rather have a child drink REGULAR soda, as opposed to a diet drink, which contains 'fake', man-made sugars, which are made from (unnatural) chemicals.

I think it is ok to let her have some ever now and then, but not to often because it can still cause teeth problems. If you do give her diet soda gave her the clear ones like sprite, serra mist.

try to keep it at a minimum. Most of the diet sodas (pops) have aspartame as the sweetener. Tests have shown that it's not really healthy and especially for young kids. But since it's minimal, I wouldn't worry that much.(but then the kids want it all the time! lol) good luck.

I would opt for juice or milk. Diet drinks contain chemical sweetners so you would be better off letting her have the sugar. After all its only once in a while.

you can do whatever you want. but i think all sodas are bad for kids, if it's not the sugar or caffeine it's the weird sugar substitutes like splenda and saccharin. what are in those anyway?
I stick to water, milk and juice (diluted and very rarely).
the term diet freaks me out too. kids don't need to diet and shouldn't associate a food with dieting. just my opinion.

there is a substance in diet sodas that has actually been linked to causing cancer and other health problems. I wouldn't let my child drink diet...nor would I let my mother.

Let her have regular sprite, or kool aid. Or, take club soda and add a little of it to Juice and it will give the carbonated taste to the healthier juice.

At restraunts and very special occassions o dont see why. You are teaching her to drink it in moderation. If you do not give her any there will be a time when she can buy it herself and she will drink it non stop. Trust me i am one of those children that never got any treats. As soon as i got a job i lived on chicolate and soft drink. It took me a long time to get over it..... oh and not diet
