Because without accepting the spirit of God, we will be forced into eternal death. Since every single human who has been, is, and will be on this earth is a sinner, every single human is imperfect. Perfection was required for heaven. However, when Jesus Christ made the ultimate sacrifice on the Cross, all humans' sins are forgiven and are allowed into heaven on one condition:
You must rightfully and genuinely accept and believe in Christ on His terms. Eternal life is granted to those who do, and as for the rest: eternal death. There is no in-between, purgatory, or reincarnation. When you physically die, you go to heaven or hell. It's that simple. If you want to go to heaven, you must accept God's gift. Good luck.

You mean "accept," right? Because "except" changes the entire context of your question.
Now, I have "excepted" the spirit - but I'm sure that's not the answer you are looking for...

I don't think you understand what our spirit is.. Our spirit is often referred to as a part of our emotions, our personality, or the very qualities of ourselves as an individual. It is a product of everything you do, every word you speak and every thought that enters your mind.
So everything counts. Everything you do, and think will live eternally. So be careful how you nurture your spirit. Seek truth, practice love and relish everything in the world that has beauty. In this way you will grow and come to understand that God's Spirit is to be found everywhere.

You mean "accept"? We must only do that which moves us. I like the old John Lennon quote. "God is a concept, but which we measure our pain." So God is essentially what you make of it. Male, female, energy, etc. But I believe there is a universal consciousness that we should strive to be a part of.

Because if you don't formally reject Satan and accept the grace of God, you're not likely to be fit for heaven.
