My question is to people of all religions.

There are many Christians, Jews, Muslims, Mormans, and people of many other faiths who believe that only those who are part of their faith will have salvation. They cite certain passages from their own sacred and holy texts. And indeed, if they take these texts literally than it may be logical to believe this.

But as we become more enlightened and educated, isn't it harder to accept these kind of teachings? Would a loving God reject people from spending eternity with Him just because they joined the wrong Church? (or Mosque or Sunagogue or temple)?

I am a Christian. But I think that God has the power to grant salvation to any good person.

I would be interested to hear what others think about this.

By the way, there are cerainly MANY people in the above mentioned faiths that do not believe that only members of their religion go to Heaven.

RAY J - I think its a myth that the Pope said that. The present Pope is not a believer in Dual Covenant Theology.

I love your philosophy. If more people followed it, it would be a happier world.

Because the Bible says there is one way and it is through Jesus, then I must believe that one must accept Jesus as his savior.

That said; God can do anything He wants. But He cannot lie.
Anyone can accept Jesus anywhere, anytime, encluding a split second before death. God can deal with anyone in that length of time. Because of His ability to do so, even those who do not believe Jesus is our savior can come to know this and be forgiven, enlightened and saved.
Being a good person, no matter how good, will not get us into Heaven.

The Catholic Catechism (i am quoting from memory i'd have to identify the source which i couldn't find at the moment, please forgive my errors, but i have heard this more than once from priests) is clear that every person ignorant of the REAL PRESENCE of the FULLNESS OF THE TRUTH that is Catholic, is still within salvation. If however you are aware of THE FULLNESS OF THE TRUTH that is Catholic and reject this, you've rejected JESUS . . . if however you are ignorant of this you may still be redeemed . .. but even so only by JESUS CHRIST . ..

The Catholic Church is a priest, a nation of priests, a light unto the world leading to TRUTH, a land of the living, THE BODY OF CHRIST on Earth . ..

Anyone who tries to get to HEAVEN by another way, other than JESUS CHRIST is a theif and a robber.

Therefore all be can be saved, but only through JESUS CHRIST and JESUS will save whom JESUS wills to save. And since the BODY of CHRIST is THE CATHOLIC CHURCH it is through the CHURCH that we shall see the salvation of GOD . .. JESUS is the HEAD OF THE CHURCH and CHURCH is the BODY OF CHRIST . . . There is no other way to the ETERNAL GLORY OF HEAVEN.

-LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
Amen.

I don't really believe in Heaven but if I did then I would assume that in any reasonably run universe any good person would be eligible for Heaven. Conversely, sending someone to Hell, even a Hitler, would be cruel and unjust.

you know.. i used to belive that.. that only people from my religion were the ones going to heaven.. as i grew up and realised that relgion is just a way to make people fight with each other about what they believe. im a christian and fully proud of it and i like their believes, but i also do believe that God doesnt go by religion but the kind of person you have been your whole life....

If there is a heaven or some variation then I would only want to be there if it's by the goodness of a persons heart and not what doctrine they subscribed to.

I'm not real sure. I was always taught that on Judgement Day, everyone would come before God. If they accepted God and Jesus right then, honestly, they would go to heaven. Those who would reject Him (after seeing Him) would go to Hell.

I believe anyone can go to Heaven if they accept Jesus as Lord.

Depending upon how strictly/loosely you define "heaven" and "hell" (and no, there is not one and only one definition -- various Christians, and other groups, have varying definitions):

There will be lots of people of all sorts in both Heaven and Hell.

Every group you can name will be represented in both places.

Some people will be in places that are simultaneously both Heaven and Hell.
