I put my beautiful 1990 VFR750 into a ditch on Wednesday night, she's torn to shreds and I sold her for scrap. As sad as I am there are always other fish in the sea. I need a new bike, and I want to know what I should get. I would love a double R but I don't want to spend more than 5k. I want a thousand cc no older than 2000, and sport bikes are definitely my style any Ideas?

all right, first of all the crash wasn't really my fault, back country roads, right at dusk, and gravel on the corner, I would love to see any of you guys save that one, but way to make me feel like crap. **** happens and I made a mistake. And I don't know where y'all live, but I looked at two bikes at a dealer the other day that fit my requisites, with out any damage and in good condition.
It's all good, you guys just don't need to be down on me, I feel bad enough about my bike as it is.

So let me get this, you want an Open-class 1000cc sport bike, year 2000+, AND for less than $5,000?
You're on crack.
The closest you'll get is a late 90's Yamaha R1 with high miles (which are not Honda quality). Or a reconstructed bike.
What makes you think you need a 1000? I'm sure you'd be ecstatic with a Honda CBR-600 F4i. Insurance is also cheaper, along with fuel.

With under 5k you can barley pick up a 600cc let alone 1000cc bike, your bet is to source out your local auction. If your lucky you might find a late model 600. Weights lighter than a 1000 and easily thrown around tracks and roads.

If you are willing to do some work, then you may get a fairly nice bike that age for $5000.
Look around for one that has cosmetic damage, but has low miles and no frame or fork damage.
I bought my 1999 Kawi Ninja ZX-6R for $2000 and all that was wrong with it was broken fairings and mirror...some rash on the brake handle where it was laid down on that side. Had 10,000 miles on it and ran perfect....still does.

You had a VFR750. It was not the fastest bike or the lightest either but, it was comfortable. If you are looking for comfort, check out the cbr -F4 600. My personal favorite is the new VFR800 Interceptor.
Check e-bay motors.

You just got that bike and was looking for mods. Sorry to hear about your bike, but you need to learn to ride or you'll end up in the ditch again. You might not be so lucky to live next time.

You are pushing it on price. But definitely check out Craigslist.com. Best source for used bikes.

Either way, you going to have to put some work into what ever you buy for $5,000.00. And again, you might get lucky and find something on ebay. Good Luck.

Look at the CBR929RR or 954RR. Those are great bikes that you can get for decent money these days. And - fuel injected!
