No matter what branch of service you are in, your service record will follow you. You may get a new record going from the Army to the Marines, but your army records will be inserted in your marine records. Also, you will get a new service record going from enlisted to officer, but, all of your enlisted records will follow you. Your military record is life time lasting. They do not wipe it clean when you change service branch's. I went from enlisted to officer and my records showed every promotin and every citation I had when I was enlisted. Also, my DD214 ( discharge record ) shows every rank, promotion and every thing that happend to me from the day I enlisted to the day I retired 25 years later.

Your record is your record. Your awards are your awards. I have seen many sailors wearing army ribbons and vice versa. I have also seen Officers right out of training wearing all of the awards and ribbon received while enlisted. I even knew an Annapolis grad who wore his Army enlisted ribbons. He was an E-4 in the Army and went to USMAPS but didn't get accepted to USMA so he went to Annapolis instead and he wore is Army ribbons
